Saurav Ganguly says he is not making his acting debut with the Bengali remake of ‘Golconda High School’

Tollywood is at it again. Post numerous claims that actor Salman Khan is interested in remaking every Telugu blockbuster (which the actor clearly refuted), T-Town has now found another name to piggyback on.
A few days ago, Tollyland went into a tizzy with reports emerging that former Team India captain, Sourav Ganguly will be making his filmi debut in the Bengali remake of the Telugu flick, “Golconda High School” which starred Sumanth and Swathi. While the news was enough to make any movie or cricket buff sit up and take note, back in the confines of his Kolkata home, Sourav Ganguly remained oblivious to the buzz. “I have not watched the movie and no one has approached me with the offer to act in the film,” Ganguly told a close friend, who confirmed the news to H yd e r ab a d Times.
Not just Dada, but many in the Bengali movie industry — also known as Tollywood — seem to be amused by the suggestion of Ganguly acting and producing a flick. “Dada has no idea about the movie and has not bought the rights to “Golconda High School”. In fact, he has not bought the rights to any film. Sourav has not heard about “GHS”, leave alone knowing who bought the rights or who is producing it. Though he has done two television shows — “Dadagiri” and “Key Hobe Banglar Kotipoti” (the Bengali version of “Kaun Banega Crorepati”), Sourav has no intensions of acting in movies as of now,” confirms the source.
    As contradictory reports emerged in
the media with actor Sumanth stating that Ganguly will produce and star in the remake, when contacted, the actor threw light on the confusion that prevailed. Claiming that he isn’t sure about who would reprise his role in the Bengali remake, Sumanth clarified his stance, saying, “My producer informed me that Sourav was keen on doing the film. Personally, I have no clue if he is doing the movie or not. I’m a big fan of Sourav Ganguly and have great respect for him as a cricketer. I think people have just jumped the gun here.”
Meanwhile, the producer of the original Telugu flick, Ram Mohan Paruvu remains oblivious to the suggestion that Ganguly might do the Bengali remake of the movie. Quiz him on how Ganguly’s name popped up in this melee and he says, “A production house from Kolkata approached me to buy the remake rights of “Golconda High School”. They told me they were keen on approaching Sourav Ganguly for the film as he fit the role of a cricket coach. Apart from what they told me, I don’t know if Sourav is doing the film or not. I just sold the Bengali rights of the movie. Meanwhile, the rights to the other languages are still with us and we are planning an English dubbed version soon,” affirms Paruvu.
While T-Town looks for another name to sell their remakes to, Dada fans will have to wait a little longer to see their cricketing icon showcase his acting skills in front of the camera.
